Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information I collect when you use any service under rednecksnailspit.co.za (the "Services"), why I collect it, and what control you have over it. I operate the Services as an individual based in South Africa, and this policy is written with reference to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA").
For the purposes of POPIA, I am the responsible party for the personal information described below.
1. What I collect
When you sign in through the shared authentication service (auth.rednecksnailspit.co.za) using a third-party provider — such as Discord, Steam, Google, or GitHub — I receive and store:
- A unique identifier from that provider, so I can recognize your account on your next visit;
- Whatever profile information that provider makes available through its API — typically your username or display name, profile picture, and (where the provider supplies it) your email address;
- Any additional information you choose to add yourself, such as a bio or a custom avatar image URL.
I only request the minimum data each provider's API requires to sign you in and show a usable profile — I don't request access to your messages, contacts, friends lists, or anything else beyond basic profile information.
I don't run analytics or tracking scripts on any of the Services, and I don't process payments anywhere on these Services at this time.
2. Why I collect it
I use this information to:
- Let you sign in and be recognized across the Services that use the shared authentication service;
- Display your chosen name and avatar back to you and, where relevant, to other users of a given Service;
- Match a new sign-in to an existing account where a verified email is shared between providers, so you're not made to create duplicate accounts unintentionally.
I don't sell your information, and I don't share it with third parties except where a Service you're using needs it to function (for example, an app you sign into via the shared authentication service receiving your profile so it can display your name and avatar).
3. How long I keep it
Your account and profile information is kept for as long as your account exists. Data received from a linked provider is refreshed periodically when you sign in, so it stays reasonably current.
4. Your rights and control over your data
Under POPIA, and as a matter of principle, you have the right to:
- Know what information I hold about you;
- Correct information that's inaccurate;
- Object to how your information is processed;
- Request that your information be deleted.
Today, you can already edit your own display name, bio, and avatar directly on your account page at auth.rednecksnailspit.co.za, and you can see exactly which third-party accounts are linked to your profile and what information each one reports.
Self-service account deletion is not yet available. This is a known gap I'm actively working on, not a decision to withhold it — until it ships, if you'd like your account and associated data deleted, contact me directly (see below) and I'll action the request manually.
5. Where your data is stored
Data is stored on infrastructure I operate and control. I take reasonable technical measures to secure it (such as using established, industry-standard authentication protocols with each linked provider rather than handling passwords myself), but as with any online service, I can't guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's information
The Services aren't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If I become aware that I've inadvertently collected such information, I'll delete it.
7. Changes to this policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including as account deletion and other data-control features are built. If I make a material change, I'll update the "Last updated" date above.
8. Contact / complaints
Questions about this policy, or requests relating to your personal information, can be raised through any of the contact methods listed on my main site, rednecksnailspit.co.za. If you're not satisfied with how a request is handled, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
